St. Louis Rams receiver Matt Fortes has been released by the New York Giants, according to a report from ESPN.
Forte, who turns 33 in May, has been the NFL’s best receiver since his rookie year.
The Bears have been interested in trading Forte for a few weeks now.
The team released Forte last week, according, ESPN.
Forte had a career-high 549 yards and four touchdowns last season.
The receiver was selected by the Packers in the second round of the 2010 NFL Draft out of Stanford.
Fortes is the second Bears receiver to go, joining Pro Bowl wideout Jeremy Ross.
Fortes, who had 10 receptions for 145 yards and a touchdown last season, signed with the Giants as a free agent in 2015.
